William F. Delaney Sr.

View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SWANSEA, MA – William F. Delaney, Sr., 87, of Swansea, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Joseph and Jenie (Carey) Delaney, he was the husband of the late Lorraine (Vital) Delaney, with whom he shared a fifty-five year marriage.
Bill grew up in Somerset and was a 1940 graduate of Somerset High School, after which he served his country during WWII as a paratrooper with the Unites States Army. Mr. Delaney received several merit awards and the Bronze Star.
After the war he worked as a laborer for Gileck Leather Tanning Company in Taunton for thirty-five years, and also as a reserve police officer in Swansea for several years. Mr. Delaney was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a past commander of the Somerset VFW, James L. and John E. Lynch Post 8500, and the Swansea VFW, Joseph L. French Post 2045 and the American Legion in Swansea.
Mr. Delaney is survived by his daughter, Maureen Johnson and her husband Robert of Las Vegas, NV; his son, William F. Delaney, Jr., and his wife Suzanne of Swansea; a sister, Irene Crowell of Georgia; three grandchildren, Christopher Neher of Bristol, RI, William F. Delaney, III, of New Bedford, MA, and Patrick Delaney of Swansea; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Information
His funeral service will be held Friday, January 22, 2010, at 9:00am from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Saint Louis De France Church, 56 Buffinton St., Swansea, with burial to follow with Military Honors in Mount Hope Cemetery Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours with Video Photo Album will be Thursday, January 21, from 4:00-7:00pm in the funeral home.
