Robert D. d'Anjou

NEW BEDFORD – Robert D. d'Anjou, 87, of Fairhaven, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. He was the husband of the late Margaret Mary (Wade) d’Anjou, with whom he shared a fifty-two year marriage. Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Jules F. and the late Laura (Caouette) d’Anjou, he was a lifelong resident of the town and communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.

Mr. d’Anjou served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WWII and later would graduate from Bryant College. He worked as a salesman for Kellogg’s Cereal and later the Holcomb Chemical Company, from where he retired in 1992. He loved to play Contract Bridge and was a Life Master Bridge Player, competing in various local, regional and national tournaments. He was also an avid golfer.

He is survived by two sons, Peter d’Anjou and his wife Sara of Norfolk and Paul d’Anjou and his wife Linda of Naples, FL; two daughters, Christine Ellen d’Anjou of Marblehead and Mary Ellen Correia and her husband Trevor of Okinawa, Japan; four grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn Correia and Elizabeth and Alexander d’Anjou; a brother, Byron d’Anjou of Wareham; two sisters, Jane Ostric of Louisville, Kentucky, and Peggy Campa of Portland, Oregon; a dear friend, Ethel Cataldo of Fairhaven; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. d’Anjou was the father of the late Mark Robert, James Dennis and Luke Jules d’Anjou.

Funeral Information

The family will be receiving visitors Tuesday, September 15, 2009, from 9:00 until 10:30AM in THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven. Cremation will follow.
