View Tribute and Sign Guestbook DIGHTON – Joseph F. Pavao, 91, of Hart St., Dighton, died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Somerset, a son of the late Manuel & Mary (Medeiros) Pavao, he was the husband of Silvana (Alves) Pavao.
Mr. Pavao was employed as a carpenter for more than thirty-five years with W. Lepes & Sons Construction Company, before retiring some thirty years ago. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army serving during WWII, where he received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
A resident of Dighton for more than fifty-five years, prior to relocating from Fall River, Joseph was a parishioner of the former St. Peter’s Church in Dighton, and was currently a parishioner of St. Louis De France Church in Swansea. He was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Peter’s and The Holy Name Society; he was a past recipient if the Marian Medal. He was a member of the Dighton Bowling League, an avid farmer, and enjoyed his family activities.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Joseph Pavao of Portsmouth, RI, James Pavao of Annapolis, MD, John Pavao of Somerset, MA, and Jeffrey Pavao of Dighton, MA; three daughters, Joyce Swanson of Warwick, RI, Joan Bower of Kings Park, Long Island, NY, and Jane Pavao of Dighton, MA; three sisters, Melvina Medeiros of Homosassa, Florida, Ida Munoz of San Diego, CA, and Martha Mello of Somerset MA. He was the grandfather of thirteen and the great grandfather of ten; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel Pavao, Victor Pavao, Louis Pavao, David Pavao, Mary Medeiros, Marie Souza, Emma Cordeiro, and Leita Medeiros.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 8:30am from THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Louis De France Church, 56 Buffington St., Swansea MA, followed by burial with military honors at 12:45pm in The Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
