View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET – Joy (Sophios) Pappas, 73, of Sullivan Avenue in Somerset, died at home on Friday, October 19, 2007. Born in Medford, MA, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Demetra (Sarmatzis) Sophios, she was the wife of the late John Pappas.
Mrs. Pappas worked for the Clifton Nursing Center as a dietician. She received a bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts School of Art in 1956 and later went on to teach in the New Bedford Public School System. She was a member of Somerset Methodist Church.
She leaves two sons, Charles Pappas and his wife Diane of Assonet, MA, and John Pappas, Jr., and his wife Joanne of Westport, MA; two sisters, Marion Samoorian of Billerica, MA; and Cleo Sophios of Medford, MA; four grandchildren, Tara Pappas, Alanna Pappas, both of Assonet, MA, and Troy and Clay Pappas, both of Westport, MA. Mrs. Pappas was the sister of the late Beatrice Bjork.
Funeral Information
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007, at 10:00AM in the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA; Burial will follow the service in Nathan Slade Cemetery in Somerset. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, October 26, from 5:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
