Noella Claire (Provencher) Alfonso, 75, of New Bedford and the Nichols Nursing Home, Fairhaven died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health. She was the widow of Clifford T. Alfonso. Born December 27, 1930 in New Bedford the daughter of the late Denis and Malvina (Cormier) Provencher, she lived most of her life in New Bedford. She was a communicant of St. Joseph and St. Therese Church, New Bedford.

Mrs. Alfonso graduated from New Bedford High School. She later worked for many years as an examiner and trimmer for Grinnell Pajama Company. She was very active with her church and belonged to various organizations such as, Legion of Mary, the Prayer Group of St. Joseph Church, Children of Mary and the Ladies of St. Anne's. She was an Apostalate for Christian Action, a church lector, organist, and cantor. Mrs. Alfonso was also a member of the Stetsonaire's.

She is survived by three sisters, Ida Cormier of Manchester, CT, Viola Lague Lapre of New Bedford, and Irene LaRochelle of Fairhaven; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Roland Provencher, the late Loretta Blais, the late Jeannette Comeau Cambra, and the late Dora Kirwan.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be Monday, March 27, 2006 at 9:00 AM from the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph and St. Therese Church, New Bedford. Interment will be in Sacred Heart #2 Cemetery, New Bedford.
