Debra A. (Torres) Fredericks, 64, of North Dighton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, after a long struggle with cancer. She was the devoted wife of Douglas R. Fredericks for over 45 years.
Born in Taunton, Debra was the beloved daughter of Francis and Dorothy (Bleau) Torres of North Dighton, and sister of Peter Torres and Diane Torres of North Dighton, James Torres of Boston and Gary Buseck of Taunton.
She was a graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, attended Stonehill College, and earned a Masters Degree from Salve Regina College.
In 1971, she married Douglas R. Fredericks, and raised a family of four children.
Together with her father, she co-owned and operated Torres Real Estate and Insurance, in Dighton, for more than 40 years.
She was passionate about her work, and held a number of advanced insurance designations, including CPCU and CIC, and was a Licensed Insurance Adviser. She also served on the board of the Massachusetts Insurance Agents Association and as president of the Bristol Chapter Massachusetts Association of Insurance Women.
As a lifelong resident of Dighton, she also took great interest and pride in her community.
However, Debra most cherished time spent with her family and was “Neema” to her ten grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, parents, and siblings, she is survived by four children: Christian D. Fredericks and wife Lydia of Rehoboth; Robert D. Fredericks and wife Terri of North Dighton; Julie A. Preston and husband Damien of North Dighton, and Lois G. Medeiros of Bridgewater. Her adored grandchildren are Damien Jr., Emma, Christian Jr., Lily, Aaron, Maddux, Willow, Alexa, Violet, and David.
She also had a special love for her two nephews: Brian Torres of Riverside, RI; and Mark Torres, currently serving in the Army and stationed in Maryland.
Funeral arrangements are by the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., Taunton.
Calling hours will be Monday, May 15, 2017, from 4-8pm.
