Martha A. (Bowden) Hancock, 75, of 2109 Elm Street, Dighton, MA, died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. She was the wife of the late Edward Hancock. Born January 4, 1931 in Fall River, Massachusetts she was the daughter of the late Philip Knight and Esther (Brightman) Bowden.

Mrs. Hancock had been a Elementary School Teacher for the Bristol School System for thirty-two years, retiring in 1990. She was a 1953 Graduate of Lesley College in Cambridge, MA; where she received a BS in education and had been very active with the reunion committee and it's alumni. A member of the Order of Eastern Star, Ladies Auxilary, Somerset, MA; she enjoyed reading and was a member of the Dighton book club, also a member of the Dighton Unitarian Community Church, Dighton, MA; she was one of the oldest standing members of the church. She enjoyed being a grandmother, making jewlery and had a love for animals especially her dog's.

She leaves two daughters, Linda Coningford of Warwick, RI; Jayne McDonough of Dighton, MA; one sister, Phyllis Jane Hotz of Spencer, MA; one grand daughter, Olivia Tilden of Dighton, MA. She also leaves one niece, Priscilla Hotz of Charlton, MA, and two nephews, Jonathan Hotz of Rockport MA and David Hotz of Charlton, MA. She was the aunt of the late Rebecca Hotz Miller. She is also survived by many dear and close friends.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held Friday, August 11, 2006 at 11:00 am in Dighton Unitarian Community Church, Elm Street, Dighton, MA. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 10, 2006 from 4:00-8:00 pm in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA.
