Edna Mae (Simmons) Wakefield

TAUNTON – Edna Mae (Simmons) Wakefield, 89, formerly of the School Street Apartments in Taunton and lately of Wedgemere Nursing Home, died in Morton Hospital in Taunton on Friday, December 14, 2007, after a brief illness. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late George and Mary (Ramsey) Simmons, she was the wife of the late Albert Wakefield.

Mrs. Wakefield was educated in the Taunton Public Schools. For approximately fifteen years, she was a cook for Head Start in Taunton. However, she was always known for being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She and her late husband met and lived in North Dighton upon being married. She was member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Taunton.

She was the mother of Richard Wakefield of Taunton and Judith Crandell and her husband William of East Bridgewater, and the late Carol Ann Silveira of Raynham. She was the former mother-in-law of John Silveira and his wife Donna of Raynham. She was the grandmother of Deborah Williams and her husband Michael of Raynham, William Crandell and his wife Kim of Raynham, and Christine Flaherty and her husband John of Holden, MA; as well as the great-grandmother of Daniel, Bryan and Jessica Williams, Kaylee Crandell of Raynham and Jason and Ryan Flaherty of Holden.

Funeral Information

A funeral memorial service will be conducted in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, on Thursday, December 20, 2007, at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment of her cremains will follow the funeral service in Mayflower Hill Cemetery.
