View Tribute and Sign Guestbook NEW BEDFORD – Shirley E. (Sweet) Vallejo, 61, of New Bedford, died Monday, August 23, 2010, at her home after a long illness. She was the companion of Raymond Bourque of Freetown and former wife of the late Israel Vallejo. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Raymond and the late Charlotte (Cathcart) Sweet, she grew up in Fairhaven and lived most of her life in New Bedford.
Shirley worked in the seafood processing industry for many years and later as a packer at Shepherd Clothing. She served as a monitor for Whaling City Transit Co. until her illness. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and taking trips to the Newport Grand.
She is also survived by a son, Michael Vallejo and his companion Michele Arruda of Acushnet; two sisters, Carol A. Fleury and Gloria Diaz, both of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Valencia and Danika; a sister-in-law, Marie Cathcart; a nephew, Steven Diaz; two nieces, Cheryl Pereira and Ann Diaz; a dear friend, Fernanda Rodrigues; two great-nephews and a great-niece. Ms. Vallejo was the sister of the late Vernon Cathcart.
Funeral Information
In accordance with her wishes she was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven.
