SWANSEA Thomas F. Smith, Sr., 88, a resident of Dillon Lane, Swansea, for nine years, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Sakonnet Bay Manor in Tiverton, RI. He was the husband of the late Edna P. (Poleman) Smith. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Christopher and Katherine (McGarty) Smith.

Mr. Smith worked for Fischer Millinery Company in New York City for thirty-six years, retiring in 1981 as president. After his retirement he moved to Cape Cod. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Westbury, New York. He was a communicant of Saint Louis de France Church and Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Swansea. He enjoyed sports, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.

He leaves one son, Thomas F. Smith, Jr., of Swansea; three daughters, Marcia Miller of Basking Ridge, NJ, Sally Dixner of Fairfield Glade, TN, and Tracy DePietropaolo of Downingtown, PA; one nephew, James Robert Smith of Eatontown, NJ.; and ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith was the father of the late Theodore Christopher Smith and the brother of the late James Joseph Smith, William W. Smith and Christopher J. Smith.

Funeral Information

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, May 26, 2007, at 9:00AM in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea, with burial to follow in Christ Church Cemetery, Swansea.
