View Tribute and Sign Guestbook ATTLEBORO – Ruth M. (Lennox) Shaw, age 91, of Attleboro passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2007, at the Golden Living Center- Bristol (formerly the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home) where she had resided since November 2001. She was the beloved wife of the late Marshall A. (Marty) Shaw , to whom she was married 58 years at the time of his death in 1993.
Born in Norton, April 24, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Carson H. and Vera (Mills) Lennox and a resident of Attleboro since early childhood. She was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1934, where she played violin in the school orchestra. She continued to play violin as an adult to entertain her family, and piano at her church.
Mrs. Shaw was employed by the Attleboro Chapter of the American Red Cross for 30 years before retiring as Executive Secretary in 1981. She was a member of the Attleboro Seventh-day Adventist Church where she had served as a Treasurer. Head deaconess, pianist and Sabbath school teacher. She also headed up many social events at the church and was an integral part of the Dorcas Society which aided those in the community who needed assistance.
Mrs. Shaw was a devout vegetarian and enjoyed cooking meals for family, friends and church functions. She also enjoyed gardening and creating afghans and pillow covers. She was a happy homemaker of her generation that loved to can and preserve anything her husband grew in the garden. If Marty grew it she preserved it. She was generous with her time to her community and she was always there to help anyone in need.
She will be missed by all who knew her and is survived by two daughters, Sandy Griffin of Attleboro and Audrey Marshall of West Palm Beach, Florida; two sisters: Dorothy Racicot of Attleboro, Shirley Bacchiocchi of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Sheryl Griffin, Dwayne Griffin, Debbie Edwards, Marty Marshall, Charlene Thiry, Dorothy Marshall; five great-grandchildren, Samantha Griffin, Christopher Griffin, Gemini Griffin, Donnie Edwards and Casey Marshall; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Grace Cruttenden and Marion Tharp.
