View Tribute and Sign Guestbook TAUNTON – Dorothy (Leonard) O'Connor, 94, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, in Marian Manor in Taunton. Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Elmer and Maude (Cahoon) Leonard, she was the widow of Francis O’Connor.
A very active long time member of the Winthrop Street Baptist Church, she was also a graduate of the Taunton Public Schools. Dorothy was a retired office clerk at the former Pierce Hardware Store on Main Street, Taunton. For more than twenty years she was a volunteer at Morton Hospital and for the Commission on the Blind. Dorothy has received formal acknowledgement from the President of United States for all acts of volunteerisms. She played the piano, keyboard and organ at Morton Hospital and Marian Manor and was a former member of the Taunton Musical Art Club and the Taunton Art Club, the Dighton Senior Citizens, the Winthrop Street Baptist Church Couples Club and she was a volunteer First Aid instructor for the Red Cross.
She was the mother of Karen Poirier of Assonet and the late Ronald O’Connor of Rehoboth, and the mother-in-law of Theresa C’Connor of Rehoboth and the late Donald Poirier of Assonet. She was the sister of the late Louise Copeland and Halford Leonard, both of Taunton, and Raymond Leonard of Brockton. Dorothy was the grandmother of six, the great-grandmother of seventeen, and the great-great-grandmother of five, as well as the aunt of several.
Funeral Information
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 12:00Noon. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 10:00AM to 12:00Noon, prior to the Service. Interment will be in the Pleasant Street Cemetery, Raynham.
