View Tribute and Sign Guestbook Bernice F. Darling, 88 of 4901 North Main Street, Fall River, MA; formerly of Dighton, MA; died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River. Born September 12, 1917 in Fall River, MA; she was the daughter of the late Ernest F. Sr. and Bernice(Staples) Darling.
Bernice attended schools in Dighton, MA and graduated from BMC Durfee High School. Bernice taught as a kindergarten aide for the WPA. During World War II she worked in Newport, R.I., at the Torpedo Station and Coddington Cove as a supply clerk. She worked at the Dighton Post Office as a postal clerk for 32 years. She also did office work and bookkeeping for the Agricultural High School and Varley Plumbing in Dighton, MA; She was a member of the former Methodist Church in Dighton where she taught Sunday school; and was a member of the official board and was the church treasurer. She enjoyed stamp collecting, reading, theatre, travel, knitting, crocheting, embroidering and board games.
She leaves one niece, Margaret (Barry) Lay of Tiverton, R.I., one cousin, Betty Crawford and her husband John of North Dighton, MA several grand nephews and nieces, and one friend, Marsha Rounds of East Taunton, MA
Funeral Information
Her Funeral will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 11:00 am in the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson Street, Fall River.Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Wednesday morning from 10-11 am in the funeral home.
