View Tribute and Sign Guestbook NEW BEDFORD – Theodore J. “Ted” Garifales, 69, of New Bedford, died Thursday, January 21, 2010, at home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Alice F. (Sylvia) Garifales. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Theodore S. and the late Jennie (Gula) Garifales, he grew up in Fairhaven and lived most of his life in New Bedford. He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and the former SMU in Dartmouth.
Ted served in the U.S. Navy and later worked as an instrumentation specialist at Polaroid for twenty-eight years until his retirement in 2001. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Reservation Golf Club in Mattapoisett. Ted enjoyed big band music, especially that of Frank Sinatra. He was also an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching all sports.
He is survived by three sons, Michael W. Garifales, Jeffrey J. Garifales and his wife Cindy and Scott A. Garifales and his wife Deby, all of New Bedford; two brothers, Ronald Garifales of Fairhaven and Bruce Garifales of New Bedford; a granddaughter, Leanne Garifales, and a niece, Lynn Garifales.
Funeral Information
In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven.
