Gennaro Francesco Villella

FALL RIVER – Gennaro Francesco Villella, 86, of Mitchell Drive, Fall River, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Conflenti, Italy, and living in Rome until 1966, the son of the late Guisepe & Serafina (Politano) Villella, he was the husband of Annina (Ferraro) Villella to whom he was married since 1948.

A graduate of Instituto Magistrale di Cosenza, he was retired from the Santoro Corporation in Fall River. Previous to immigrating with his family to the United States, he was an elementary school teacher in Rome (Italy) as well as in his spouse’s native town of Acri (Italy). Mr. Villella was also an advanced student of Latin and Biblical Studies in Catanzaro, Italy. He has been a resident of Fall River for the last forty-three years.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Candida (Villella) Bernier, Serafina (Villella) Mello, both of Fall River, Patrick Villella of Mansfield, MA, and Guiseppe Villella of Miami, Florida. He was the grandfather of Marco Villella of Mansfield, and Marc Mello of Portsmouth, RI. He was the grandfather of the late Jason Mello and the great-grandfather of Abigail, Grace, and Jack Mello, all of Portsmouth, RI.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 9:00AM from THE HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 120 Beattie St., Fall River. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum in Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held Friday, April 17, from 6:00–9:00PM.
