View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SWANSEA – Hilda (Furtado) Valerio, 76, of Swansea, died Thursday, December 18, 2008, surrounded by her family, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Born in Saint Michael, the Azores, the daughter of the late Augusto and Maria de Merces (Furtado) DaCosta, she was the wife of John D. Valerio, with whom she shared fifty-four years of marriage.
Mrs. Valerio devoted her life to raising her family. She was a communicant of Saint John of God Church in Somerset. An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed knitting, cooking, and baking. Her true passion was being with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Valerio is survived by two daughters, Mary G. Perreault and her husband Ken of Swansea, and MaryLou Fluke and her husband Rick of Swansea; two sons, John D. Valerio and his wife Terre of Somerset, and Francis C. Valerio and his wife Sheila of Swansea; two sisters, Exaltiana Bento and Jorgiana Lindo, both of Canada; a brother, Francis DaCosta of Canada. She was the grandmother of Joanne, Linda, Joshua, Tara, Kayla, Jannesa, Lauren, Jenna, and Leah; and the great-grandmother of Lindsey, Derrick, Olivia, Tyrin, and Gabriela and Dante. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late MaryLou Furtado.
Funeral Information
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at 8:00AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in Saint John of God Church, 996 Brayton Ave., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Vinnicum Woods Cemetery Swansea. Calling hours with Video Photo Album will be held Monday, December 22, from 4:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
