John R. Schuck, 59, of Fairhaven died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 8, 2006 in St. Luke's Hospital, New Bedford. He was the husband of Florence (Jenney) Schuck.

Born and brought up in Aliquippa, PA, the son of the late John and Ruth (Nary) Schuck, he came to Fairhaven after serving his country during the Vietnam War. During Mr. Schuck's time in the Army he received the Purple Heart, Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, two overseas bars, a rifleman, sharpshooter badge and was discharged as a Sergeant with a rating of E5.

Mr. Schuck was a Captain and a small craft operator for the Cape Cod Canal Field Office of the Army Corp of Engineer's. He was a very giving man, a man's man known for his sense of humor. He had many loves the first of which was his wife with whom he shared many precious times. His next love was the sea. He enjoyed fishing on Buzzards Bay on any one of his many boats that he had owned. He was also a skilled horseman and enjoyed his horse Zip and annual trail rides throughout New England. He and his wife were married at the Box B Ranch in East Corinth, VT and went yearly to Arcadia National Park and Otter Creek. He lived in the “House that Jack Built” which he built with his own hands. Mr. Schuck had a deep respect for the environment and insisted on using an electric lawn mower. He love motor cycles and owned many. He was an avid reader, internet surfer and enjoyed watching his granddaughters play basketball games.

He is survived by his wife; his step children, Ronald M. Vigeant and his son, Ronald M. Vigeant, III and his daughter Bianca Vigeant all of Honolulu, Hawaii, Richard P. Vigeant of Fairhaven and his sons, Matthew Savaria of Rochester and Christopher and Johnathan Vigeant both of Fairhaven; Ross C. Vigeant and his wife Claudia and their children, Parker, Savannah and Sophia Vigeant all of Summerville, SC and Karen Coucci and her husband James of Mattapoisett and their children, Sarah, Ashley and Hannah Hennessy and Andrew Coucci all of Mattapoisett; and a sister, Ellen Ohler of Stahlstown, PA.

Calling hours are Friday, August 11, 2006 from 4-8 PM in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven. In accordance with his wishes cremation will follow.
