Nancy A. Mello, 86, life long area resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2017. She was the wife of the late Alvarinho S. Mello.

Nancy was born in New Bedford, and was a daughter of the late Antonio S. and Augusta (da Silvia) Almeida.

Nancy was a 1950 graduate of New Bedford High School. She was employed as a procedures clerk for the Fall River District Court for many years and also clerked for the former Whitworth and Co. Insurance Agency, in New Bedford. She was communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, in Somerset, and member of the Classy Ladies. She was very active in “No LNG” and enjoyed painting, sewing, cooking and spending time in her garden. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Kenneth S. Mello Esq. and his fiancee Lara of Somerset, COL (Ret.) Jeffrey A. Mello and his wife CH. (MAJ) (Ret) Kristi Pappas of Manassas, VA, and Kevin P. Mello and his companion Kathleen of Norton; grandchildren, Samuel, Jason, Kaitlin, Sean, Brendan, Christopher, Alicia, Benjamin and Colin; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Brooklyn; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Mary Cabral, Joseph, John, Frankie, Gabriel and Ava Almeida; great-grandmother of the late Taryn Nancy and Kiera Ellen.

 

Funeral Information

Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 9am, from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Patrick Church, 306 S. St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Somerset.

Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday September 6, 2017, from 5-8pm, in the funeral home.
