Deolinda "Lena" Mattos Santos

SOMERSET – Deolinda "Lena" (Mattos) Santos, 91, of Nora Avenue, Somerset, died Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Somerset Ridge Nursing Center in Somerset. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Antone & Maria (Luz) Mattos, she was the wife of the late Manuel Santos.

Mrs. Santos worked as a weaver for United Rayon for many years and also worked as a housekeeper for various families in the community for many years as well. A resident of Somerset since 1958, she originally came from Tiverton, Rhode Island. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fall River.

She is survived by two sons, Edgar W. Santos of Somerset and Thomas R. Santos of New Bedford; three daughters, Evangelina L. “Angie” Snell of Fall River, Deborah L. Wright of Somerset, and Beverly S. Beaulieu of Swansea; a brother, Arthur Mattos of Kissimmee, Florida; a sister, Mary Raposa of Tiverton, RI; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joseph Mattos, John Mattos, Antone Mattos, and Manuel Mattos. She was the grandmother of the late Bruce Santos.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 8:00AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA, with a funeral service to follow at 9:30AM in the First Baptist Church, 228 North Main St., Fall River. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held Friday, August 29, from 5:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
