DIGHTON – Delia M. (De Cambra) Aguiar, 66, died in Somerset on Thursday, February 25, 2010, following a period of failing health. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Martin) De Cambra, Delia was a Mental Health Clinician for Community Counseling of Bristol County for over twenty years.

From 1989 to 1991 she was a Case Worker for the Foster Care Unit of Youth Opportunities Unlimited in New Bedford. She received her Associate of Arts Degree from Bristol Community College, her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, and her Master of Education Degree from Northeastern University in Boston. She was a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

A former member of St. Peter’s Church in Dighton she was a communicant of St. Nichols of Myra Church. A resident of Dighton since 1949, Delia will be remembered as a humanitarian. As a social worker and therapist, she was a strong advocate for her clients. Helping them achieve and realize their greatest potential was her constant goal. She was kind and always found goodness in others.

She was also a lover of animals, both great and small. Her pets, Chyvas and Bella Jackie, provided many hours of companionship. Delia also loved bargain hunting and going to yard sales. Her smile and intoxicating laughter will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Nicholas of Myra Church, Spring St., North Dighton, Friday, March 12, 2010, at 10:00 AM. Interment of her cremains will be with her parents in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Visiting hours will be omitted.
