William K. Whittaker

William K. Whittaker, 70, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 8, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, in New Bedford, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of 44 years, of the late Deborah A. (Boswell) Whittaker.
Born and raised in New Bedford, son of Wilbur Whittaker of Fairhaven and the late Shirley I. (Stone) Whittaker, he lived in Florida from 1991-1997 prior to settling in Fairhaven. He was a member of the South Primitive Methodist Church, in New Bedford.
Bill graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School and then served in the Air Force as a Staff Sargent during the Vietnam War, stationed in England. Upon his return, he then worked for A.T. & T for 35 years until his retirement as a manager at the age of 58.
He was involved with Demolay in his youth and played in the Whaler’s Drum and Bugle Corp. He was the Secretary of the Acushnet Rod and Gun Club, enjoyed golfing, bowling on the green at Hazelwood Park and was an avid Red Sox fan.
Bill is survived by his father; a sister, Marjorie J. Ouellette of Castleton, VT and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Marilyn E. Wood.
In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and private interment in the MA National Cemetery, in Bourne, will take place at a later date.
