Georgette Y. (Grenon) Carmel, 103, formerly of Woodlawn, Rd., North Smithfield, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 in Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Florimond Carmel, who died in 1974.

Born on March 12, 1902, in St. Simon, Quebec, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Delphis and Louisa (Valcourt) Grenon. Mrs. Carmel came to the United States at the age of 6 and remained a lifelong resident of the greater Woonsocket area.

She worked as a weaver for Jenckes Industries in Manville for many years, retiring in 1964. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Woonsocket for many years, and was also a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church in Cumberland, and St. Joseph Church in Woonsocket at various times during her life.

Mrs. Carmel was a devoted wife and mother, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter Pauline Pouliot, of North Smithfield, a sister Martha Parenteau, of Cumberland, 3 grandchildren, Kenneth Pouliot, of Pascoag, Ronny Pouliot, of Maine, and Dianne Walling, of North Smithfield. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 9:00 am from The Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Family Church, South Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham. Calling hours are Friday, December 2, 2005 from 5-8 PM.
