Wilton C. Dale

ATTLEBORO – Wilton C. Dale, 79, of Orchard Lane, Attleboro, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the Life Care Center of Attleboro. He was the husband of Bernardine (Fullen) Dale, with whom he shared a fifty-seven year marriage. He was born in Northampton, MA, a son of the late James R. & Laura G. (Campbell) Dale.

Mr. Dale was an oil salesman for the Flying A Oil Company (now part of the Getty Oil Company), and also worked for the Fairlawn and Rio Energy of Warwick for a total of thirty-two years before retiring. A veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during the Korean War on the USS Caperton DD 650 as an Electrician’s Mate 2nd class. Wilton was a 1950 graduate of Stockbridge College of Agriculture at UMASS Amherst with a degree in forestry. He also attended the university without walls at UMASS Boston.

A resident of Attleboro for more than forty years, coming from Hudson, MA, and previously Worcester, MA, and Little Compton, RI, Mr. Dale was active with the US Navy, USS Caperton reunion group, a member of the South Attleboro American Legion, and also belonged to the cardiac rehabilitation group at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He belonged to the YMCA of North Attleboro, enjoyed running, and was an avid reader.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian J. Dale of Falmouth, MA; two daughters, Susan M. Dale of Attleboro and Elise M. Smith of Chatham, MA; and a brother, Paul Powell of Grafton, MA. He was the grandfather of Patrick, Shannon, Skylar Dale, Ryan Smith, Lissy Smith, and Morgan and Nicholas DiNello. He was the brother of the late Cecil Dale.

Funeral Information

His funeral service will be held Thursday, July 15, 2010, at 11:00 am in THE FOLEY - HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 126 South Main Street, Attleboro, Massachusetts, with burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery, West St., Attleboro. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will precede the funeral service Thursday from 9:30–10:30 am.
