Ethel M. (Gurney) Demers

FAIRHAVEN – Ethel M. (Gurney) Demers, 94, of Fairhaven, died at home on Monday, December 17, 2007, after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Joseph Demers. Born in Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of the late Alfred and the late Mathilda (Goyetche) Gurney, she came to the United States in 1954 and settled in Fairhaven.

Mrs. Demers was employed as a Senior Nurse’s Aide at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where she worked for over twenty years. She was a member of the St. Luke’s Retirees.

Mrs. Demers is survived by a sister, Alfreda Tripanier of Fairhaven, with whom she lived; a step-son, Ronald Demers of Halifax, Canada, and a step-grandson, Kenneth Simard of Ontario, Canada. Mrs. Demers was the sister of the late Ervin Gurney, Mabel Casey and Beatrice Keefe.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at 9:00AM from THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Church, Fairhaven. Interment will be in River-Side Cemetery, Fairhaven. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 3:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
