View Tribute and Sign Guestbook ATTLEBORO – Richard S. Barton, 84 , of Hope St. Extension, Attleboro, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. Born in Attleboro, a son of the late George T. & May L. (Walker) Barton, he was the husband of the late Marjorie C. (Farris) Barton.
Mr. Barton worked as an engraver for the McVan Company for over forty-three years before retiring five years ago. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving as a military policeman during WWII.
A lifelong resident of Attleboro, Mr. Barton was an avid fisherman, who also enjoyed hunting and gardening, and spending time outside in the sun watching garden grow, and found pleasure in wine making. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the 1970’s Boston Bruins.
He is survived by a son, Steven Barton of Attleboro; two daughters, Diane Barton and Kathy Farrell, both of Attleboro; two grandchildren, Andrew and Harley Farrell; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George Barton, Robert Barton, and also the late Arline Swaine.
Funeral Information
A graveside service and burial of cremated remains will be held Friday, April 3, 2009, at 11:00AM in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted. Arrangements by the FOLEY–HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 126 S. Main St., Attleboro, MA.
