Gilman Ellsworth Hamer Sr.

Gilman Ellsworth Hamer, Sr., 84, of Dartmouth died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Renate (Puehringer) Hamer.
He was born in Fall River and lived in Dartmouth for the past 51 years where he was a member of the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth. Serving in WWII in the army in Europe for four years he volunteered for the occupation troupe in Austria for a year. After his return to the United States he joined the National Guard.
Mr. Hamer retired from U Mass Dartmouth in 1985 as a Stationary Engineer. He enjoyed fishing, boating, music, walking on the beach and in the woods and working on his hobbies which included being a member of the International Guild of Knot Tyers and was a Marlinspike Craftsman.
Beside his wife of 59 years he is survived by his children; Erika Hamer of Houlton, ME, Gilman Hamer, Jr. of Dartmouth and Philip Hamer of Galveston, TX; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 5, 2006 in the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth, 17 Middle Street. Arrangements are by the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford.
