SOMERSET -- Stephen W. Kornegay, 51, of Somerset died unexpectedly Friday, August 20, 2010. He was the husband of Kim (Tafe) Kornegay and father of Kyle Kornegay and his fiancé, Tara, both of Somerset. A son of Manny and Marilyn (Rogers) Medeiros and the late Willard “Tex” Kornegay, he was also brother of Jeff Kornegay and his wife Linda of Somerset and the brother of Sharon Shepard of Swansea; he is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Paul Shepard.

He worked in the maintenance department of the Somerset Police Department for the last three years. Prior to that he worked for twenty-five years with the New England Power Company of Somerset.

He was 1976 graduate of Somerset High School, and served four years in the U. S. Army. He was a long time member and a past president of the Somerset Progressive Club, a loyal NASCAR fan, and he was widely known as an organizer of many bike runs and fundraisers for local charities.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held Saturday, August 28, 2010, at 9:30 AM directly at the St. John of God Church, 986 Brayton Ave., Somerset, with burial to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours will be held Friday, August 27, from 4:00-8:00 PM in the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
