View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SWANSEA – George E. Wiggins, Jr., 77, of Smoke Rise Circle, Swansea, died Saturday, February 21, 2009, at the Summit Commons Nursing Home in Providence, RI. Born in Providence, a son of the late George E. & Mary (Finnegan) Wiggins, Sr., he was the husband of the late Lorretta (Dufault) Wiggins.
Mr. Wiggins served as a teacher and principal for more than thirty-two years at the Holy Ghost School in Providence, before retiring in 1994. An U. S. Army veteran, he had been a Swansea resident since 1972, coming from Providence, and was a parishioner of St. Dominic’s Church in Swansea.
He was very active in the School, CYO, and many Diocesan committees for Education, while teaching , and was also a Eucharistic Minister at the Holy Ghost School. He coached, umpired baseball, was a basketball referee, and enjoyed bowling.
Mr. Wiggins is survived by a son, Michael Wiggins of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; three daughters, Patricia Rodrigues of Swansea, Kathleen Berard of Swansea, Janet Partridge of Berkley; and a sister, Frances Wiggins of Swansea. He was the grandfather of Kristen Rodrigues, Tim Berard, Kim Berard, John Partridge, Nicholas Partridge, and the great-grandfather of Sophia Berard. He also left many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held Thursday, February 26, 2009, at 8:00AM from THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in St. Dominic’s Church, 1277 G.A.R. Highway, Route 6, Swansea, with burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
