Harold E. "Hal" Hathaway, 81 years old died in Brockton Hospital on December 14, 2006 after being a patient there one day. Born in Attleboro, son of the late James and Lillian (Chace) Hathaway.

He was educated in Taunton schools and he was decorated WWII US Navy veteran. He formerly owned his own company, Harold E. Hathaway Construction Company in Taunton. He had been the Clerk of the Works on various construction projects in the area including, Housing for Elderly in Taunton, Norton and Attleboro; Community Center and Taunton Housing Authority projects.

He was a member of the DeWitt Clinton Lodge of AF and AM Lodge of Masons in Sandwich, MA and a member of the Aleppo Temple. He was the former commander of the David F Adams VFW Post in Taunton. He was the feature story in the Sunday Cap Cod Times on August 19, 2006 for his dedication to collecting cans for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, MA. He summered at the Bourne Scenic Park and was know at the “Can Man” while he picked the cans for the children.

He is survived by his brother Preston Hathaway and his wife Roberta of Taunton and a sister-in-law Wilma Hathaway of Davenport,FL; He was the brother of the late James B. Hathaway and he is also survived by 2 nephews EJ and Jay Hathaway of Taunton and a niece Patricia Hathaway fof Taunton and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Wednesday at 11AM in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South) Taunton. Interment Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne.
