View Tribute and Sign Guestbook FAIRHAVEN – Juanita L. Schoff, 83, of Fairhaven, died Sunday, February 28, 2010, unexpectedly at home. She was the daughter of the late Edward R. and the late Juanita (Wells) Schoff of St. Joseph, MO. Born in St. Joseph, she lived in Fairhaven since 1969. She attended The Potter’s House and Chapel in Fairhaven for many years.
Ms. Schoff received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History from Park College. She was valedictorian of her class and received a scholarship for graduate study at the University of Chicago. At the University she earned a Master’s degree in history and later returned for additional graduate work in the field of guidance. She taught in schools of Ohio, New York and Illinois, where her creative writing class took national honors. In Illinois she completed training as a school counselor and worked in that field after 1955. In 1969 she became a counselor at Keith Junior High School and subsequently transferred to New Bedford High School in 1972 when the new building opened. She worked there until her retirement in 1992. Her leisure time was devoted to Bible study, music and reading.
She is survived by cousins in Missouri and Oregon.
