View Tribute and Sign Guestbook TAUNTON – James E. Gilson, Jr., 89, died in Morton Hospital in Taunton Sunday, November 9, 2008. Born in Dighton, son of the late James E. and Edna (Bolster) Gilson, Sr., he was the husband of Lucy R. (Moniz) Gilson.
Educated in the Taunton Public Schools, Mr. Gilson retired in 1981 after many years as an airplane mechanic with American Airlines at Logan Airport in Boston. During WW II he volunteered to join the Army Transport Command serving in Africa as a airplane mechanic assisting the war effort there.
Mr. Gilson was an active member of the West Congregational Church, remembered for assisting with their clambakes. He was a member of the Antiques Car Club of America, the United States Power Squadron, the Taunton Yacht Club and the American Airlines Vanguards. He took great pride in the fact that he built his home for his wife of sixty-two years, Lucy R. (Moniz) Gilson and himself.
He was the father of James E. Gilson, III, and his wife Shelly of Virginia Beach, VA. He was the grandfather of Heidi Turner, Michael Fry and Libby Shumate and the great-grandfather of Corey and Casey Fuliveiler, Kylee and Malorie Smith and Isabella Turner. He was the brother of the late Josephine Vieira and Barbara Hathaway. He was the brother-in-law of Herbert Vieira and the uncle of Will Vieira and Duffy Hathaway.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service for his cremains on Friday, November 14, 2008, at 11:00AM in the Westville Cemetery.
