Ella Adeline Viall Saunders

ATTLEBORO – Ella Adeline Viall Saunders died on Monday, October 29, 2007, at the Life Care Center of Attleboro, where she had been a resident since 2005. She was born in Rehoboth, the youngest daughter of the late William Carpenter Viall and Hattie Goff Viall. She graduated from East Providence High School in 1940 and Wellesley College in 1944. She grew up in Rehoboth and East Providence working in her family’s business the W.C. Viall Dairy. She was married to the late Ralph W. Saunders and lived for a short time in Cape Haitian, Haiti, and Seekonk, MA.

A resident of Attleboro for almost sixty years, she was the owner and operator of the Credit Reporting Bureau, Inc., for over forty years until her retirement in 2001. She was a past member of the Board of Election Commissioners for Ward 2A in Attleboro and the American Association of University Women in Attleboro. She was a past president of the Attleboro Quota Club International and served as the District 15 Governor from 1980 to 1982. She was a member of the Theta Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority in Attleboro since 1956, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rehoboth-Seekonk Chapter #209 for over seventy years and a member of the Goff Gathering Association. Ella was a charter member of the Attleboro Rotary Club Charities Foundation and served as a volunteer with the Sturdy Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and as Chairwoman of the Cancer Crusade of the American Cancer Society. An avid golfer, she was a former member of Highland Country Club and a charter member of the Bearcroft Swim Club.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, William Bradford Viall, Carlton Goff Viall, and Charles Carpenter Viall; and her sisters, Elizabeth Hendrickson Zollo, Harriet E. Irons and Etta L. Mutter. She is survived by her four children, William C. Saunders and wife Virginia of Rehoboth, Cynthia S. Kelly of Tallahassee, FL, Frederick V. Saunders and wife Sandra S. of North Attleboro, and Dana E. Saunders and wife Kathleen M. of Attleboro, along with nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday November 1, 2007, from 4:00 to 8:00PM in THE FOLEY-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 126 South Main St. (Route 152), Attleboro, MA. A short service will be conducted by the Rev. Scott Spencer on Friday, November 2, 2007, at 10:00AM in THE FOLEY CHAPEL, followed by burial in the family plot in the Rehoboth Village Cemetery, Bay State Road, Rehoboth, MA.
