Raymond Neary

NEW BEDFORD – Raymond Neary, 86, of New Bedford, died peacefully Friday, May 9, 2008, at the Oaks in New Bedford. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late William J. Neary, Sr. and the late Margaret (Kisbert) Neary, he was the husband of the late Eleanor F. (Perry) Neary.

A lifelong resident of the city, Mr. Neary graduated with the Class of 1938 of New Bedford High School and was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James’ Church, New Bedford.

Mr. Neary was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Navy. He later was the Parts Manager at Ashley Ford and retired from Allied Brake and Muffler in 1985. Mr. Neary loved sports and was an avid New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Thompson and her husband John of Fairhaven; two grandchildren, Katherine Thompson of Fitchburg and Tyler Thompson of Crested Butte, CO; a brother, William J. Neary, Jr., of New Bedford; two sisters, Ursula O’ Neill of Long Island, NY, and Bertille Neary of Portsmouth, RI; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Neary was the father of the late Kevin W. Neary.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at 9:00AM from THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James’ Church, New Bedford. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 13, from 5:00-8:00PM.
