FALL RIVER, MA – Maria F. (Maia) Alves, 76, of Fall River, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Maria (DoCararmo) Maia, she was the wife of Jose Alves, with whom she shared a forty-four year marriage.

Mrs. Alves devoted her life to raising a family and cherished the time spent with them and her grandchildren. She was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church in Fall River and an avid gardener.

Survivors beside her husband are a daughter, Isaura F. Goncalves of Fall River; a son, Adelino F. Alves of Fall River; a brother, Joaquin Francisco of Fall River; two loving granddaughters, Debra and Jessica; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 8:00AM from the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in Espirito Santo Church, 311 Alden St., Fall River, with burial to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
