John Frederick Rice

John Frederick Rice, 89, formerly of VA Beach, VA, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017. He was the husband of the late Dorothy H. (Dennis).
John was born in Boston and was a son of the late Chauncey and Nellie (Humphrey) Rice.
John was a veteran of WWII and served in the US Navy for over 35 years as a Chief Legalman and later served as a court reporter for the VA Beach Circuit Court. John was a lifetime member of the Attleboro VFW post 115 and the Fleet Reserve Association of VA Beach.
John was an avid NASCAR and Red Sox fan and enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, and spending time in his garden. Most of all, John cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Camara and her husband Paul of Attleboro, Helen Rockett of Pawtucket, and Dolly Rice-Lara and her husband Kenneth of Wakefield, VA; 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, John D. Rice, Sr., his son-in law, Edward L. Rockett, and his siblings, Carolyn, Madelyn and Evelyn.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 11am, in the Foley-Cook-Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 S. Main St., Attleboro. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
Calling hours will precede the service from 9-11am in the funeral home.
