TAUNTON – Francis P. Laffan, 68, died Sunday April 20, 2008, in Caritas Norwood Hospital, Norwood, MA. Born in Taunton, the son of the late Martin and Catherine (Hennessey) Laffan, he was the husband of Maureen (Goggin) Laffan, with whom he shared thirty-three years of married life.

Mr. Laffan was a graduate with the Class of 1959 of Taunton High School and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Taunton. He served in the U. S. Army from 1963 to 1965. For over forty years, Mr. Laffan was employed as a clerk at the Willow Tree Farm store in Attleboro. He also ran the Taunton Roseland Junior Bowling League, and was a Little League coach for the Eastern League, as well as the Head Umpire for the Eastern League for many years. He enjoyed bowling, receiving national recognition from the National Duck Pin Federation for bowling a “232” game. He played fast pitch softball and also played in the Lob League of softball.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Laffan is survived by his nieces and nephews, Mary Laffan Amaral of Middleboro, Patricia Jones Warwick of Alabama, James Laffan of Rochester, MA, and Martin Laffan, Edward Laffan and John Laffan, all of Taunton. He was the brother of the late Martin Laffan, Jr., Charles Laffan and Catherine Jones, and the brother-in-law of Louise Laffan of Taunton, Patricia Goggin of Taunton and Thomas Goggin of Sandwich. He was also the great uncle of several.

Funeral Information

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held from THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Friday, April 25, 2008, at 9:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00AM. Interment will follow the funeral Mass in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, April 24, from 4:00-8:00PM.
