James Taylor Watson, Jr, 93, of Hortonville Road, Swansea, died Thursday Sept. 28, 2006 at the Catholic Memorial Home Fall River. He was the husband of the late Marion ( Holden ) Watson. He was born December 30, 1912 in Fall River MA, son of the late James Taylor Watson Sr. & Elizabeth Ellen ( Atkinson ) Watson.

He was a graduate of the BMC Durfee High School Class of 1930. Mr. Watson had worked as a driver for the Stevens Trucking Company , in 1930, also was a Bus Mechanic for the Eastern Massachusetts Street Railway Company from 1931 - 1956 and also as a Mechanical Maintenance Man for the Montaup Electric Company from 1956 - 1974, retiring in 1974. He had lived in Swansea for the last 60 years coming from Fall River. He was an American Baptist belonging to the First Baptist Church of Fall River . Mr. Watson was actively involved in the Masons, where he wrote for the Trowel Masonic Magazine, he was a member of the Massasoit & Narragansett Lodge. Some of Mr. Watson's Masonic achievements are: Junior Grand Warden, The Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts, 1980 ; Master Narragansett Lodge, 1952 and 1976. He had been the recipient of the Henry Price Medal. He was Past District Deputy Grand Master , New Bedford 30th Masonic District, 1961 - 1962; Grand Principal Conductor of the work of the Grand Council Royal and Select Master Masons of Massachusetts; Grand Lecturer; Deputy Grand Priest, Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Massachusetts, Puissant Sovereign, St. Matthew's Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, 1991. Prior , York Cross of Honour, Roger Williams Priory, 1983; Monarch, Azab Grotto, 1963. He had been a Commander , Godfrey De Bouillon Commandery, 1968.

He is survived by a son James Taylor Watson III of Blackstone MA, a daughter Rev. Elizabeth G Watson of Swansea, a friend Nancy R. Levy of Fall River, a god-granddaughter Nicole C Valcourt of Fall River, several grand, great grand and great great grand nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Beatrice Partington, and Florence Francis.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held Sunday Oct. 8, 2006 at 3:00pm in the First Baptist Church 228 North Main St ,Fall River, burial at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery Fall River. Arrangements by the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA
