Walter B. Hassey Sr.

April 13, 1922 - May 30, 2006

Walter B. Hassey, Sr. age 84 of Clarence Street, Attleboro died Tuesday in the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.He was the husband of 64 years of Margaret A. (Loewen) Hassey. He was born in Dedham, MA on April 13, 1922 a son of the late Frank and Emma (Hebner) Hassey. He had lived in Attleboro for the past two years having previously been a Life long resident of Dedham. He had served as a Sergeant with the 97th Infrantry in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter #42 in Dedham, MA. Walter had been a welder and brazer with the Westinghouse company of Hyde Park for 47 years before retiring in 1992. On July 15, 1975 he was awarded commendations from the Westinghouse Co. and the Blue Hills Union Lodge #1790 for entering a tunnel where turbines had exploded and rescued a fellow employee who unfortunately later died. Mr. Hassey will be remembered as a “Jack of All trades” who could fix almost anything. Besides his wife he leaves one son Walter B. and his wife Linda Hassey, Jr. and one daughter Carol A. Milburn both of Attleboro. One sister Pearl Conopka of Dedham., MA. Four grandchildren Bonnie and her husband Ken Moore and Attleboro City Council woman Kimberly and her husband Mark Allard and Jason and Ryan Hassey all of Attleboro. Three great grandchildren Stephanie Brodeur, Jacob Allard and Anthony Hassey. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Schiller, Harold, Francis, Albert, Arthur and Lorraine Hassey.

Funeral Information

His funeral officiated by the Rev. Dr. Daniel Dore will be held on Saturday at 10 AM in THE FOLEY-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 126 South Main St. (Route152) Attleboro. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Veterans Garden Section of Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
