View Tribute and Sign Guestbook TAUNTON–Mary (Holmes) King, 91, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, in the Life Care Center of Raynham, after having been a patient there less than a week. Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Dean) Holmes, she was the widow of the late Raymond King.
Educated in the Taunton Public Schools, she was a 1936 graduate of Taunton High School. She was a very active member of and volunteer at the Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Kings Daughters and the Diligent Daughters. A member of various senior citizens groups and camping organizations, she was active with the Boy and Girl Scouts when her children were young. She is also fondly remembered as the Stamp Lady at the Barnum School, selling stamps during the 50’s and 60’s for Saving Bonds. Mary was the Past President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Post 611 VFW in Taunton. She also enjoyed poetry.
Mary was the mother of Marilyn Thorpe of Taunton, Martha King of Taunton, Joanne Girard of Homossa, FL, Ralph King of Baton Rouge, LA, and David King of Taunton, with whom she made her home. Mary was the grandmother of eleven, the great-grandmother of sixteen, and the great-great-grandmother of four.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours Wednesday, August 19, 2009, from 4:00-8:00 PM in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, with a prayer service to be offered at 7:30PM. A graveside service will be held in Mayflower Hill Cemetery Thursday, August 20, at 11:00AM.
