Eleanor E. (Jenkins) Barrow

NEW BEDFORD – Eleanor E. (Jenkins) Barrow, 86, of Fairhaven, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, in St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Howard J. “Howie” Barrow. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Bertram L. and the late Evelyn (Snailham) Jenkins, she grew up in Dartmouth and was a 1940 graduate of Dartmouth High School. Mrs. Barrow and her husband, who later settled in Fairhaven in 1950, where she had been a member of the Centre United Methodist Church.

After WWII she worked at the Braley Creamery and later at Universal Hat for a period, but mostly she was a loving wife and mother to her husband and her family. Mrs. Barrow was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all of the local teams.

She is survived by her son, Howard J. “Howie” Barrow, Jr., and his wife Kim of Williamsburg, VA; four grandchildren, 1Lt. Howard J. Barrow, III, USA, Elinor Domes and her husband Brad, and Anne Barrow and Kathryn Barrow; a great-grandson, Devon Domes; a nephew, Mark Jenkins and his wife Doris of North Dartmouth, who helped make her life more special, and several other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barrow was the sister of the late Walter and Ralph Jenkins.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 12:00PM in THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford. Calling hours will be held from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral service. Interment will be private.
