Alice S. (Ponte) Farias

NEW BEDFORD – Alice S. (Ponte) Farias, 85, of Fairhaven, passed away Friday, December 25, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Vincent and the late Mary S. (Andrade) Ponte, she was the widow of Antone Farias, Jr. A New Bedford resident before settling in Fairhaven in 1946, Mrs. Farias was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven.

Mrs. Farias worked at Paulding as a stitcher, prior to raising her family as a homemaker. She enjoyed needlepoint, doll making and going to BINGO.

She is survived by a daughter, Debra Ann Farias of Fairhaven; a son, Michael W. Farias of Fairhaven; three sisters, Mary Smith of New Bedford, Theresa McKay of Dartmouth and Hilda Hollingshead of Lagrange, Ohio; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Jessica, Brittany, Michael, Jr. and Leah Farias; a great-granddaughter, Bianca Nicole Farias; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Farias was the mother of the late Antone V. Farias, the sister of the late Manuel Ponte, and the grandmother of the late Jason M. Farias.

Funeral Information
