Gerald Hyacinth LaBrie

FAIRHAVEN – Gerald H. LaBrie, 87, of Fairhaven, formerly of Freetown and Dartmouth, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Our Lady’s Haven, Fairhaven. Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Amedee and Elise (Saulnier) LaBrie, he was the husband of Theresa (Blanchard) LaBrie.

Mr. LaBrie was the co-owner of Hobbytown in Dartmouth for thirty-five years. He also served as sexton at Our Lady of Fatima Church in New Bedford for twelve years and was a past recipient of the Marian Medal. An avid wood worker, Mr. LaBrie was noted for handcrafting Nativity Stables for local churches, including some in the Archdiocese of Boston, as well as parishes in Louisiana and for E.W.T.N. Mr. LaBrie was well known for his western town replica in his former Freetown residence and his lifelong commitment to others.

Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Diane Ellis and Martha LeComte, both of Fairhaven; one son, Paul LaBrie of Fall River; one sister, Irene Casey of Fairhaven; one brother, Leo LaBrie of Florida; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mr. LaBrie was the brother of the late Amie, Alfred, Adrien and Donat LaBrie, Simone Desmarais, and Yvette Legault.

Funeral Information

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 28, 2007, in St. Anthony’s Church, Mattapoisett, to be followed by a “celebration of his life brunch”. Interment will be private. All arrangements have been entrusted to the FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven.
