View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SWANSEA, MA – Eugene J. Ferris, 92, of Swansea, died Monday, August 3, 2009, at the Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River. Born in Taunton, MA, the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Carvalho) Ferrie, he was the husband of the late Mary (Mello) Ferris.
Mr. Ferris served his country during WWII with the United States Navy. He worked as a chemical foreman for ICI America in Dighton for thirty-four years, retiring in 1979. Eugene was a communicant of Saint Thomas More Church in Somerset, and a member of the Somerset Progressive Club, and the James and John Lynch VFW Post 8500 in Somerset. Mr. Ferris was an avid dancer and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves a daughter, Judith Velozo and her husband Ronald of Somerset, MA; a sister, Lillian Andrews of Taunton, MA; three grandchildren, Tracey, Catherine, and James Velozo; two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Dominic; a loving companion, Florence Saracino of Warren, RI; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Enos, Margaret Silveira, Francis, William, and Alfred Ferrie and several other brothers.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held Thursday, August 6, 2009, at 8:00AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in Saint Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial with MILITARY HONORS will follow the funeral liturgy in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours with Video Photo Album will be Wednesday, August 5, from 6:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
