James "Jim" Farias

View Tribute and Sign Guestbook BOSTON – James "Jim" Farias, 84, of Fairhaven, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008, after a brief illness, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the husband of Lillian (Bento) Farias. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Antone and the late Mary C. (Pimental) Farias, he was a lifelong resident of Fairhaven and a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven.
Mr. Farias served in the U. S. Army during WWII in the 331st Harbor Craft Company and was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the Victory Medal. He later worked as a mechanic for more than thirty years at Chamberlaine Manufacturing in New Bedford, retiring twenty-five years ago. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Damien Council, the American Legion Post 166 of Fairhaven and enjoyed digging littlenecks and gardening.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Suzanne G. Wolfgang and her husband Daniel of Fairhaven; a granddaughter, Sara A. Wolfgang of Atlanta, GA; a brother, John T. Farias and his wife Mary of Fairhaven; a sister, Lydia May of Interlocken, MI; a sister-in-law, Alice Farias of Fairhaven; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Farias was the brother of the late Antone Farias.
Funeral Information
Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008, from 9:00-10:00AM with a service at 10:00AM in the FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven, followed by interment with Military Honors in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
