View Tribute and Sign Guestbook NEW BEDFORD – Thelma E. (Perrier) Zbornak, 63, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of Paul J. Zbornak with whom she shared a thirty-nine year marriage. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Irving and the late Eleanor (Rothwell) Perrier, she was a lifelong resident of the city and a member of the People’s Christian Church where she sang in the choir.
Thelma was employed as a school teacher in the New Bedford Public School system for thirty-six years until her retirement from the Mt. Pleasant School. She graduated from New Bedford High School in 1965 and received her BA from Barrington College and her MA from Bridgewater State College.
She met her husband during the 1960’s when he was stationed at Otis Air Force Base in Bourne. She enjoyed reading, walking, camping and traveling, and especially spending time with her cat Mittens.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother-in-law, Martha Zbornak of Belleville, IL; a daughter, Kristina E. Yeater and her husband Dean of Warwick, RI; a son, Kevin J. Zbornak of Sedalia, Missouri; a sister, Marcia Rego of Swansea; two grandsons, Nathan and Justin Yeater; and several aunts, uncles and two nieces.
Funeral Information
Her calling hours will be Sunday, November 22, 2009, from 4:00-7:00PM in THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford. Her funeral service will be held Monday, November 23, at 10:00AM in the People’s Christian Church, 2240 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
