Fernanda (Mendes) Baptista, 87, of New Bedford died Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford. She was the widow of Joao Baptista.
Born November 8, 1918 in Funchal Madeira, Portugal the daughter of the late Gastao Luis Bernardes and the late Jeogina Mendes, she lived in Portugal until moving to New Bedford in 1970. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, New Bedford.
Mrs. Baptista was a homemaker.
She is survived by four sons, Jose Carlos Baptista and his wife Maria of New Bedford, Joao M. Baptista of Madeira, Portugal, Egidio Baptista of New Bedford, and Humberto Baptista and his wife Susan of Acushnet; four daughters, Fernanda M. Thomas of New Bedford, Ester Fernandez and her husband Carlos of Dartmouth, Lucia Vasconcellos of New Bedford and Ligia Baptista of New Bedford; a son in law, Manuel Carvalho of New Bedford; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Filomena Carvalho.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 8:00 AM from the FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main St., FAIRHAVEN followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, New Bedford. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford. Calling hours are Friday 5-8 PM.
