PORTSMOUTH – Richard R. "Rick" Paquette, 58, of Bourbon Street, Portsmouth, RI, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Richard E. & Eleanor (Shannon) Paquette, he was the husband of Susan E. Adams.

Mr. Paquette was a self-employed consultant and computer programmer and systems manager, who had also worked at Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI, for three years before becoming disabled. A veteran, he served four years in the U S Air Force in Hawaii, earning the rank of a sergeant. A resident of Portsmouth since 1988, relocating from Fall River, he was a communicant of The Church of Our Saviour (Episcopal) in Somerset.

He was an avid sports fan of baseball, football, and especially NASCAR, his favorite driver being Jeff Gordon, the driver of the # 24 car. He was known as a great lover and rescuer of animals, and he had served as a coach in the CYO league, coaching basketball and baseball. He also loved music, played the guitar and enjoyed attending many live Rock and Blues concerts.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Paquette is survived by a step-daughter, Lauren Stone of Portsmouth; a brother, Jack & his wife Joan Paquette of Sandwich, MA; two aunts, Barbara & Jerry Lopriore of Somerset, and Edythe Shannon of Somerset; two nephews, Craig and Brian Paquette of Sandwich; a cousin, Jeff & his wife Denise Waite of Fall River, and their children, Becky, Chris, Sheena; his mother-in-law, Ruth Adams of Ohio, a sister-in-law, Linda Adams of Ohio, and a brother-in-law, Rich Adams of New Hampshire.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held Monday, December 29, 2008, at 10:00AM in the Church of Our Saviour Episcopal, 2112 County St., Somerset, followed by a private burial. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service by reporting directly to the church. Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted.
