Ora L. (Chace) DeCastro

View Tribute and Sign Guestbook TAUNTON – Ora L. (Chace) DeCastro, 86, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in Morton Hospital, Taunton. Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Clifford and Lois (Moorehouse) Chace, she was the wife of the late George E. “Bud” DeCastro.
Ora was educated in the Taunton Public Schools and was a long time member of the West Congregational Church, where she assisted as a member of the Ladies Aid Society, helping put on many suppers and clambakes. A well known cake decorator, she was known for making numerous wedding cakes, not only for her family but for many brides in the Taunton area. She taught cake decorating at the former Taunton Vocational High School.
A member of the DAR, Ora was also a former member of the Taunton Garden Club and the Westville Women’s Club. She was a member as well as a leader of the 4H. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, but she especially enjoyed spending time at her family home on the Cape. She was a member of the Popponsett Beach Association in Mashpee.
The matriarch of five generations, she is survived by her children, Sandra Slaney, Ginger De Valk, Edward and Alan DeCastro, all of Taunton. She was the mother-in-law of Cecelia DeCastro, George DeValk and the late Joanne DeCastro. She was the grandmother of eight, the great-grandmother of eighteen, and the great-great-grandmother of nine. Ora was also the sister of Avis DeCastro and Vernon Chace, both of Taunton; as well as the sister-in-law of Marcie Chace and the late William DeCastro; and the aunt of many.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in the Winthrop Street Baptist Church, 39 Winthrop St. (Route 44 West), Taunton, Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 10:00AM.
