TAUNTON – Joseph Fraga, 85, a retired Lieutenant on the City of Taunton Fire Department, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, in the Southeast Rehab and Skilled Care Center, North Easton. Born in Taunton, the son of the late Antonio and Ethelvina (Berthao) Fraga, he was the husbandof the late Irene (Gonsalves) Fraga who died in July of 2009, and with whom he shared a sixty-two year marriage.

Mr. Fraga was educated in the Taunton Public Schools and was a WW II veteran of the U. S. Army, serving under the command of General George Patton. He was a firefighter for the City of Taunton for more than thirty-two years, and he was a member of the PACC, VFW and the YMCA.

He is survived by a daughter, Diana Chabot and her husband Gordon of Taunton; and a son, Jim Fraga of Taunton. Joe was the grandfather of Ed Dexter and his wife Veronica, Jay Fraga, Keri Marot and Josh Marot; and the great-grandfather of Dillion and Luke Fraga and Jamari Thomas Fernandes. He was the brother of Helen Annunziato, Ethel Fraga, Rev. Bento Fraga, George Fraga, Alfred Fraga, Edward Fraga, and Paul Fraga. He was also the brother of the late Antone Fraga, Delphina Fraga, Sr., Mary Fraga, and Louis Fraga; as well as the uncle of several.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Thursday, March 11, 2010, at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, March 10, from 5:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home.
