TIVERTON, RI – Clinton Waite, 90, of Tiverton, RI, died Thursday, December 10, 2009, in Maryland surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of sixty years to the late Eva (Scanlon) Waite. During the last years of Eva’s life Clinton provided unconditional care.

Born in Fall River, MA, the son of the late Arthur E. and Eva (Riley) Waite, he was a 1937 graduate of BMC Durfee High School. Mr. Waite then served his country with the Civilian Conservation Corps and then during WWII with the United States Air Corps.

After serving his country, Clinton worked for the United States Postal Service for thirty-three years and held several positions. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fall River for eighty-three years and a fifty-five year member of he Massasoit-Narragansett Lodge A.F. & A.M. He was a Past Master of the Lodge and currently served as chaplain. Clinton enjoyed recruiting and installing new members in his lodge and also at other lodges in the area. Mr. Waite also achieved the 33rd degree in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Providence and Rhode Island Shriners A.A.O.M.S. in Cranston. He was an active supporter of numerous children’s charities. Mr. Waite was also a fifty-year member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Waite Maurano and her husband Richard Louis Maurano of Silver Spring, MD; three grandchildren, Matthew Richard Maurano and his wife Heather of Silver Spring, MD, Alicia Maurano Phillips and her husband John of Potomac, MD, and Andrew Waite Maurano and his wife Maureen of Silver Spring, MD; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Gordon Waite of Fall River, MA; and many nieces, a nephew and great nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mildred Waite, Doris Belanger, Lucille Hambly and Everett and Raymond Waite.

Funeral Information

His funeral service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 10:00am in the First Baptist Church, 228 North Main St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service by going directly to the church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
